Extended Weekend Trip – Monkton Wyld, Dorset

Thursday 22nd - Sunday 25th October 2026

Please join us for 3 days walking in scenic south Dorset, where we will enjoy a mix of coastal and inland walking. There are lots of hills to challenge us in this area, whether inland or by the coast, and enough wooded valleys to enjoy the autumn colours. Inland Dorset is usually quiet and has a very rural feel, especially out-of-season, although Lyme Regis itself is always popular and our trip will coincide with school half-term.

We will be staying on a Bed & Breakfast basis at Monkton Wyld Court; this large mid-19th Century gothic mansion and former rectory is set in its own grounds, where they manage their own organic smallholding. We will have comfortable bedrooms (no bunks!) with all bedding provided. We also have use of a comfortable and spacious drawing room complete with a log-burner stove for cosy evenings. Food - Please note that this trip will be entirely vegetarian due to the rules set by our hosts. Breakfast is included and where possible, comes from their own farm. We will prepare our own evening meals achieving a high standard vegetarian menu. On return from walks there will be a selection of home-made cakes.

Cost - a rough estimate until I know numbers is £220 including group travel, or £190 independents. The price reflects the fact that this is good quality accommodation with all the facilities we need for a relaxing and inspiring weekend. We last stayed at Monkton Wyld Court in early 2023 and were very impressed.

Travel - The journey from Sussex is approx 130 miles, so for those who can travel early there will be the option of a short (five or six mile) walk on the Thursday afternoon.

Booking - Please pay a deposit of £165 pp to the club bank account by 8th August. The short deadline is because we are close to the trip and must complete our booking by that date.
