Page 1 of 8 Frequently Asked Questions Q. How long has Highdown HMC been in existence? A. Since October 1986 Q. What do the initals HMC stand for? A. Hillwalking and Mountaineering Club. Q. What type of activities does the club offer its members? A. The main activity is hill/fell walking. Some trips also offer the chance to do some climbing as an alternative to the walking, although there will still be walking on offer. Occasionally there is an opportunity for cycling providing there is transport available for the bikes. Q. Do you do any social activities in the local area? A. Yes. We have a Club Dinner which is preceded by an optional walk. We use this opportunity to show slides or films of recent trips. This year we have two outdoor climbing days. in the Crowborough area. These are at different venues. Four of our Summer Club Meetings involve a walk followed by an optional visit to a local Pub.
Q. Do you have regular Club meetings? A. Yes. Monthly, usually 7/10 days before each trip. We meet at the Coach and Horses PH on the westbound A27 between Worthing and Clapham from 220.00 until closing time. or whenever you wish to leave. Four of our Summer Club Meetings involve a walk before the pub and venues vary. See the programme for more information. We also hold a programme planning evening in July and an AGM at the end of November.
