Weekend Trip – North Norfolk coastFriday 13th - Monday 16th November 2026Our November trip takes us to North Norfolk where we will enjoy hikes along the Norfolk Coast which is an 'area of outstanding natural beauty'. We will be staying at Dial House, a national trust bunkhouse within Brancaster Staithe habour. This is a large bunkhouse which sleeps up to 22 people across 4 rooms - each with an ensuite. Here is the link to the bunkhouse for more information/photos: The Dial House Norfolk Blakeney point, which is 30 minutes drive from our accommodation, is the home of England's largest grey seal colony. November falls within the breeding season for seals so we should be lucky enough to see lots of seal pups on our hikes. There is also the option for those who wish to take a boat tour around Blakeney point for a closer look. The estimated trip cost based on 12 is: Group: £175 Independent: £135 Of course if we have more than 12, which we certainly have space for, then the final costs should be less. The deposit will be £100 to be sent to the club account. Please email Amber and Mandy if you wish to join the trip. |

Weekend Camping (or possibly “Camping Barn”) – DorsetThursday 16th - Sunday 19th July 2026
The beautiful Isle of Purbeck has a special place in my heart, bounded by the Jurassic Coast to the south and sliced through by the Purbeck Hills with the iconic ruins of Corfe Castle at its heart. We camped in Dorset in the summer of 2024, when we stayed just outside of the village of Corfe. This time we are heading out towards the coast and the village of Langton Matravers to a lovely campsite that Amber and I found (and that my brother had always raved about) called Tom’s Field for some traditional rural camping. “Nothing fancy! Just simple fields, basic facilities in a beautiful place close to a lovely village and a very useful shop on site,” according to their website. (www.tomsfieldcamping.co.uk) There won’t be any communal cooking of meals on this trip : we will eat out at the Kings Arms in Langton Matravers one evening and perhaps drive into Swanage the other evening, or it may be possible to get a pizza on the campsite. And you don’t even have to cook your own breakfast : the onsite café “The Sprout and Bean” has a very tempting menu (Photo is one Alison took in 2024) I’m going to be booking 6 pitches, which can each take two small tents; the price is per person. If you love the idea of coming to Dorset but aren't keen on canvas, the site offers a The Walker’s Barn and The Stone Room www.tomsfieldcamping.co.uk - Facilities. Please email me by the end of January if this interests you: I can then see what interest from other club members we have, and can then see if either / both is available. And if you don’t have a tent / airbed / cooking equipment but would still like to camp please do get in touch as we will be able to arrange for you to borrow kit or share with someone else. As to the walking (which is why we are going after all!) I have got two and a half glorious days roughly mapped out to take in as much of the coast and Purbeck Hills as possible, and with the highlight on one of the days being the opportunity to go by steam train to Corfe. The walks will be between 10 and 15 miles long, with opportunities to extend / shorten. Accommodation : Campsite Cost (approx)(for camping) : £65 to include shared transport and pitch fees. Independent travellers - £45 Deposit : £45 to Organiser by 1st May 2026 please. |

Weekend Trip – Moffat for the Southern UplandsTuesday 15th - Sunday 20th September 2026The Glorious Southern Uplands of Scotland: 5 nights We have secured luxury accommodation to die for in a 180 year old Scottish Country House in Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway, gateway to the Lowther and Moffat hills. The border uplands here look rolling but hide deep corries and high waterfalls with the plateau torn by ravines and arched ridges. These hills are wild, remote and craggy, with some decent climbs to White Combe (821m) and Hart Fell (808m) as well as a plethora of shorter, lower options around awesome lochs with literary connections to writers and poets. Carrifran wildwood is 10 minutes from the hostel and is one of the first rewilding projects in the Border country. The River Tweed begins its journey here and Victorian reservoirs are hidden in folds of the land. The walking is world class and yet is little known, so the hills are relatively empty. The rugged Southern Upland Way leads from Moffat to St Mary’s Loch, offering a full day 15 mile walk. If you missed out on a stay at the amazing Mar Lodge in Braemar a couple of years ago, Moffat hostel offers an equally authentic country house atmosphere. All rooms are ensuite (the superior quad room even has a roll top bath with a view of the hills!), there’s a games room with 7ft pool table and vinyl record player and a railway carriage with a king size bed plus en-suite in the garden! There is a decent drying room, electric bike charging and an EV charger on site for electric cars (cheaper than the fast charger in town). Read more here: Moffat Independent Hostel - Book Now Walks will be four full days out; I am expecting to plan three ten mile walks taking in the Hart fell horseshoe, White Combe and Loch Skeen and the Devil’s Beeftub with the Southern Upland Way linear walk as a possibility as well. Shorter options include The Wiss and a circuit of St Mary’s Loch from Tibbie Shiels; The Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall, Carrifran wildwood and Penistone Knowe via Loch of the Lowes, and maybe a circuit of Meggett reservoir with optional out and back to one of the surrounding tops. Look at the videos on the Moffat Independent Hostel fb and insta pages: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1Bq6kZcNcW/ to get a feel for the terrain and sample views! We will eat out on arrival and self-cater for four evening meals plus five breakfasts, and the town is within easy strolling distance for supplies for lunches. We can offer up to 16 spaces – but book quickly as places will go! Likely costs will depend on the numbers booked (I have reserved the whole hostel) Accommodation, food and transport for group travel (approx.) £355, Independents £270 (if we are full with 16 participants this could reduce to (approx.) £300 group and £215 independent.) I have allowed extra mileage for car travel to and from some of the walks. Deposit £220. Please email Sue Waton to reserve your place. |
