![]() Weekend Trip – Black MountainsThursday 27th - Sunday 30th March 2025We will be staying literally just underneath Table Mountain, above Crickhowell in a rather beautiful bunk house: Perth-y-Pia which sleeps 16 in 5 rooms, including a single room. Pillows and duvets are provided, bring your own linen. The bunkhouse has oil fired central heating and free Wifi throughout, with a large wood burning stove in the living room so we should be cosy if it’s a cool spring! There is a steep driveway up to the car parking area, but we can leave cars in the bottom field if there is any anxiety about this. We will drive up on Thursday 27th March, eat in a local pub (hopefully the Bear in Crickhowell) and self-cater the following two evening meals and three breakfasts. We plan two full day walks, probably the first will be from the door onto the Pen Cerrig-calch ridge from Table Mountain, walking on to Pen Allt-mawr, returning along the beautiful Grwyne Fechan valley (approx. 12 miles). Our second full day could be the Dragon’s Back ridge onto Waun Fach, or part of the Hatteral Ridge following Offa’s Dyke path, looping down to Llanthony Priory and returning to our start via the Cambrian Way (11 miles) Our Sunday morning stroll could be Sugar Loaf, or the Skirrid. There will be shorter, lower level options on offer as well. The area is quieter than the main Bannau Brycheiniog national park, but similar underfoot, with some boggy sections. We will try to avoid the worst! The estimated costs based on 10 people sharing the accommodation are: GROUP: £155; INDEPENDENTS: £115. Obviously if we get more than 10, the final actual costs will be less. I have also been pessimistic with estimated petrol costs! The deposit will be £90. Please email Sue in the first instance for her bank details and once received all deposits will be forwarded straight to the Club account. |

More than a Weekend Trip – Northumberland CoastTuesday 8th - Sunday 13th July 2025Booking is closed - all places are taken, so waiting list only. You are invited to join us for this 5-night adventure to the stunning Northumberland coast, where we will be based near Seahouses (opposite the Farne Islands). We will have four and a half days walking, of which three will be coastal walks between Holy Island and Amble. We will be walking the pilgrim route across the sands to Holy Island (Lindisfarne) at low water. On another day we travel inland to the edge of the Cheviots to ascend Yeavering Bell, one of the biggest Iron Age settlements in Britain with views north into Scotland. The area is steeped in history, from Iron Age hill forts and sites of early Christianity to numerous castles and medieval architecture. The moorlands and coastal environments are the best (and probably the cleanest) in the UK and we expect see a lot of the wildlife of this area. We will be staying at The Hides, where we have booked three adjacent units, each of which has an en-suite shower and outdoor seating / BBQ area to make the most of the long evenings. Our accommodation is dog-friendly, quiet, relaxed, and just a short stroll from Seahouses. Cost: to include accommodation, group transport, and shared meals (4 dinners, 5 breakfasts) is approx. £220 (independents £170). Admission to castles, lunches etc. will be extra. Places are limited to 10 participants on a first come basis. Please pay your deposit of £150 into the HHMC a/c and email me to let me know you have paid. Early booking is recommended. |
