Day Walk – High Weald, BalcombeSunday 16th March 2025Meet at the lay-by outside St Marys Church on the B2036 London Road, Balcombe at 10am for a 10:15 Start. We will head east toward Balcombe lake and skirt Wakehurst place the royal Botanic gardens, turning south toward Ardingly village and the reservoir around lunch time. We continue on the Ouse valley way and under the magnificent rail Viaduct before turning north via Upper Pilstye back towards Balcombe village where there is a good Pub the half moon for refreshment if you wish. It’s a fairly hilly route and sections can be muddy during wet weather. Total distance 17.84Km 419m height gain. For those travelling by public transport from London or the Sussex coast there are trains that stop at Balcombe. From rail station it’s a 0.5km walk north to St Marys church. Bus (Compass) 62 Crawley- Balcombe- Haywards Heath. It should be possible to car share - please let me know if you are willing to offer or would like a lift and I will arrange the transport. There is plenty of parking in the lay-by next to the church (should the lay-by be full continue north to another 0.5km further on). Please bring a picnic and flask. Day Walk – Ditchling BeaconSunday 6th April 2025Meet at 10.15 for a 10.30 start at Ditchling Beacon car park. We will head west towards Clayton Windmills then South and round to Lower Standean. We will walk through Highpark Wood above Stanmer, over Bow hill and back up to Streat Hill (via a lovely cart selling coffees and cakes!) before heading back to Ditchling Beacon. The route is just under 10 miles. Remember your packed lunch! For those wanting to travel by public transport there is the 79 breeze bus from Brighton. It may be possible to offer car shares. Day Walk – LittlehamptonSunday 4th May 2025Please note change of day! Meet at 9.45 for 10am start outside Littlehampton station (there is a paid carpark nearby). We will follow the river to the coast then walk to Felpham and back. If the tide is out we will walk on the beach or if the tide is in then along the promenade with some road. When the tide is out this walk is beautiful. At Felpham there is a nice cafe as well as seating for those bringing a packed lunch. The walk is 11 miles |
