Evening Walk – Knepp rewilded estateThursday 19th June 2025We will meet in the village of Dial Post, by the Green at 6pm, where roadside parking is available by the pub, the Crown. This guided stroll around Knepp rewilded estate is just over 5 miles and should take us around 2 hours, depending on the animals we may meet and wish to photograph. Knepp has free-roaming long-horn cattle, deer, pigs, Exmoor ponies and the famous white storks, which we hope to be lucky enough to see. This flat walk passes through open ground, the Hammer Pond, where kingfishers are often seen; then exits the estate to visit Shipley Windmill, re-entering into the deer park and up past the Castle. We will then walk past the mill pond, with possibly time to divert briefly to the bird hide. We continue on to the remains of the original Castle Keep on its mound before returning through the estate to the village and perhaps being tempted into the pub for a sundowner. Please car share if you can as the pub is often quite busy, or email me and I will try to coordinate lifts. There is a no 23 bus that visits Dial Post, departing Worthing at 17.09 and arriving at Dial Post around 17.45ish. But you'd need a lift back as the return route finishes at 7pm! Please let me know if you'd like to join us, and let me have your mobile number in case of a late bad weather cancellation. |
