Day Walk – BotolphsSaturday 1st February 2025Meeting at 10 am at the lay-by at Botolphs on the A283 (left hand side heading north, approx half a km beyond the row of cottages north of the cement works), we will head up towards Beeding Hill. We will then follow the Monarch's Way to Southwick Hill. Here, we'll descend towards Mile Oak and pick up the Sussex Border Path just beyond Cockroost hill, which will gently take us back to the South Downs Way to complete our circuit. The walk is 10 miles and we should comfortably complete it in good daylight, although there are options to shorten it if needed. Please bring a packed lunch and a flask of tea. There will be a chance to top up with tea and cake at the Youth Hostel (and use the loos) on our way back if time permits.The ascent is around 1400ft overall. Day Walk – Seven SistersSaturday 1st March 2025Meet at the Seven Sisters car park for a 10.30 start. We will head through the woods to join the South Downs Way up to Litlington then follow the path back down along the river Cuckmere. Those after a shorter walk could return to the car park at this point otherwise we will follow the Vanguard way to the cliffs edge, head over South hill and on to Seaford before returning along the cliffs edge and back up the river Cuckmere to the carpark. Total distance is 10.5 miles with 1136ft of ascent. Please remember your packed lunch. For those travelling by public transport the number 12 bus runs from Brighton. It may also be possible to do car shares - please let me know if you are willing to offer or if you would like to have a lift. |
Day Walk – High Weald, BalcombeSunday 16th March 2025Meet at the lay-by outside St Marys Church on the B2036 London Road, Balcombe at 10am for a 10:15 Start. We will head east toward Balcombe lake and skirt Wakehurst place the royal Botanic gardens, turning south toward Ardingly village and the reservoir around lunch time. We continue on the Ouse valley way and under the magnificent rail Viaduct before turning north via Upper Pilstye back towards Balcombe village where there is a good Pub the half moon for refreshment if you wish. It’s a fairly hilly route and sections can be muddy during wet weather. Total distance 17.84Km 419m height gain. For those travelling by public transport from London or the Sussex coast there are trains that stop at Balcombe. From rail station it’s a 0.5km walk north to St Marys church. Bus (Compass) 62 Crawley- Balcombe- Haywards Heath. It should be possible to car share - please let me know if you are willing to offer or would like a lift and I will arrange the transport. There is plenty of parking in the lay-by next to the church (should the lay-by be full continue north to another 0.5km further on). Please bring a picnic and flask.
