Day Walk – WashingtonSaturday 24th January 2026Apologies for late notice about next Saturdays walk (I have just arrived back from a trip to Australia!). The walk starts and finishes at the Frankland Arms P.H. in Washington. Please meet at 10:00am outside the pub. Parking is available along the road. There is also public transport available - the No 23 runs up the A24 in Worthing and takes about 22 mins. The walk will go through Washington and the village Church before going round Windlesham School and along the South Downs Way. The walk then goes down to Sullington Church and then returning to the Pub. The walk has an elevation of only 54 metres and is approximately 10 km. There will be boggy sections given all the rain we have had and can be adjusted if the weather is against us. https://explore.osmaps.com/route/30326320/Frankland-Arms-PH-Washington |

Evening Walk – Wineham (near Henfield)Wednesday 6th August 2025The walk is 5 miles and is a circular from the Royal Oak Pub in Wineham, Wineham Lane. Meet at 6.45pm for a prompt 7pm start, it'll take about 2 hours. The Royal Oak is a lovely old pub, perfect to finish the evening in if you want to. Can people park in the lane and not in the pub car park. A flat walk through meadows by the Adur with a chance of seeing Barn owls. There is no public transport; if you would like to walk and need a lift I'll endeavour to match you to someone from your area who is driving. Please let me know if you'd like to come at |
Evening Walk – Knepp rewilded estateThursday 19th June 2025We will meet in the village of Dial Post, by the Green at 6pm, where roadside parking is available by the pub, the Crown. This guided stroll around Knepp rewilded estate is just over 5 miles and should take us around 2 hours, depending on the animals we may meet and wish to photograph. Knepp has free-roaming long-horn cattle, deer, pigs, Exmoor ponies and the famous white storks, which we hope to be lucky enough to see. This flat walk passes through open ground, the Hammer Pond, where kingfishers are often seen; then exits the estate to visit Shipley Windmill, re-entering into the deer park and up past the Castle. We will then walk past the mill pond, with possibly time to divert briefly to the bird hide. We continue on to the remains of the original Castle Keep on its mound before returning through the estate to the village and perhaps being tempted into the pub for a sundowner. Please car share if you can as the pub is often quite busy, or email me and I will try to coordinate lifts. There is a no 23 bus that visits Dial Post, departing Worthing at 17.09 and arriving at Dial Post around 17.45ish. But you'd need a lift back as the return route finishes at 7pm! Please let me know if you'd like to join us, and let me have your mobile number in case of a late bad weather cancellation. |
